We hiked down the steep, almost vertical hills to reach Lagoa do Fogo, a crystal clear volcanic lagoon surrounded by the majestic mountains on the island of San Miguel, Azores. I set up my easel by the turquoise waters and painted my heart away watching mist climbing down the distant peaks. I carried this painting in my hands all the way back up. It felt so special to be able to experience that magical moment of creating in a solitude, being one on one with nature untouched by human hand.
